The pitfalls of managing remotely without the right sidekick
When Dana Curry stepped into property management, she and her husband were picking up responsibility for buildings that had been run on spreadsheets and inconsistent systems, with more properties waiting in the wings.
“We took over three buildings—23 units—in Seattle, but were living in Everett, which is a little bit removed. We thought, ‘how are we going to be able to communicate with the new tenants?’”
The portfolio wasn’t small, but it also wasn’t large enough to be taken seriously by enterprise platforms. Dana noticed that quickly.
“We were kind of ignored by some of the competition because we didn’t have 200-plus units or whatever.”
She needed a partner that didn’t treat them like they were too small to matter.
The one software ready to help, not reject
Dana evaluated the usual options. Some were too rigid. Others were priced for portfolios far larger than theirs. DoorLoop stood out because it fit where they were now and where they were headed.
“We checked into Yardi. We checked into RentReady. We checked into all of them, but DoorLoop was the only one from a price point, fluidity, reporting, and everything else just made the most sense.”
With a small team—just three people—Dana needed software that didn’t slow anyone down. DoorLoop became the central place to communicate with tenants, manage reporting, and stay organized without adding overhead.
What surprised her most wasn’t just what DoorLoop already did; it was how quickly the software evolved alongside her feedback.
“Anytime I’ve had a suggestion for something, next thing I know, it’s in the next rollout.”

Staying responsive statewide without hiring
The real difference showed up in how manageable everything felt daily for Dana. The team stayed lean, communication stayed tight, and nothing fell through the cracks, even as more properties came under management.
She didn’t feel like support disappeared as DoorLoop grew. If anything, it felt more accessible than competitors she had evaluated.
“I don’t feel like that as [DoorLoop] grows that we’re losing anything in terms of quick responses and overall helpfulness.”
Dana puts it simply: DoorLoop didn’t just work for her portfolio. It respected it.
“I’m just a DoorLoop fan all the way around.”
“Before DoorLoop, we were stuck with spreadsheets and limited tools. Now we can send mass tenant communications, run reports easily, and actually feel supported even with a smaller portfolio.”
